PENN Retaliate X Slow Pitch Jigging Cast Rod 62 (<300g)

Slow pitch jigging (SPJ) is all about rhythm, finesse, andabove allsensitivity. The PENN Retaliate X is specifically engineered for the angler who wants to feel the ocean floor hundreds of meters down. At Gerrys Fishing, weve seen plenty of jigging rods, but the Retaliate X stands out for its minimalist, high-performance Japanese-inspired design.

Constructed with Carbon X-Wrap technology, the blank is incredibly slim and lightweight to prevent arm fatigue, yet it possesses a highly responsive tip that flicks the jig to life. To ensure you dont miss a single tap from a wary predator, the butt section is almost entirely stripped of EVA foam. This naked design allows the vibrations to travel directly from the blank into your forearm, turning the rod into an extension of your nervous system.

Gerrys Pro Tips

Pro Tip 1: The Sensitivity Secret. Because this rod has a stripped-back butt section, hold the rod so the blank makes contact with your inner forearm. Youll be amazed at how much more intel you get from your jigyou can often tell the difference between a pebble and a nibble.

Pro Tip 2: Let the Rod do the Work. Slow pitch jigging isnt about aggressive speed ripping. Use the 62 length to load the rod tip and let its natural recovery flick the jig upward. Most of your bites will come on the slack as the jig flutters back down.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use a fixed-spool (spinning) reel on this rod?

No. This is a Cast model, meaning it features a trigger grip designed for overhead or multiplier reels. Using a fixed spool will result in poor line flow and unbalanced handling.

Why is it one piece?

In slow pitch jigging, the feel is everything. A one-piece design ensures the vibrations from the jig arent muffled by a joint, and the rods parabolic curve remains perfectly smooth from tip to butt.

What size braid should I use?

To get the most out of a 300g SPJ rod, we recommend using a very thin, high-quality PE braid (typically PE 2.0 to 3.0). Thinner line cuts through the current faster, allowing you to use lighter jigs and stay more vertical.

Does it come with a rod bag?

Yes, the PENN Retaliate X is supplied with a tailored rod bag to protect those high-quality Fuji guides during transport.
