HTO Slow Jig - 40g 75mm
The HTO Slow Jig 40g is the finesse master of the range, specifically designed for ultra-light boat fishing, kayaking, and pier work. While its larger siblings are built for the deep, this 75mm model is all about subtle presentation in shallower water, offering a realistic, snack-sized profile that triggers aggressive strikes from a massive variety of UK species.
Despite its light weight, the flat, bullet-shaped design ensures it cuts through the surface to reach the bottom quickly. Once in the kill zone, its slightly contoured body comes to life. When worked with slow, rhythmic rod lifts, the jig creates intense flashes and a distinctive side-on flutter as it falls. This erratic dying baitfish actionenhanced by high-reflectivity holographic patternsis what makes it irresistible to everything from specimen Bass and Pollack to colorful Gurnards and Wrasse.

Examples of Where to Use the 40g Slow Jig
-
Shallow Inshore Reefs: Ideal for depths between 10ft and 40ft where heavier jigs would sink too fast and look unnatural.
-
Pier & Harbor Wall Jigging: A fantastic choice for vertical dropping alongside pier pilings for Wrasse, Pollack, and even the occasional Bass.
-
Kayak & LRF Boat Fishing: Perfectly weighted for Light Rock Fishing (LRF) enthusiasts and kayak anglers using ultra-light gear who want a lure with maximum feel.
Gerrys Fishing Pro Tip
To get the most out of the 40g version, you need to use very light tackleideally a PE 0.6 or 0.8 braid. Because its so light, the flutter is easily dampened by heavy line. When you lift the rod, let the tip drop just fast enough to create a tiny bit of slack; this releases the jig to kick sideways and vibrate on the fall. Please Note: These jigs are supplied without hooks. For this 75mm body, we recommend a single size 2 or size 1 HTO Assist Hook at the top eye for the best balance and hook-up rate!
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
-
Can I cast this from the shore? Yes! Unlike the heavier models, the 40g version is an excellent casting jig for shore anglers targeting Mackerel, Bass, and Pollack over deep-water rock marks.
-
Is it too light for boat fishing? In shallow water or at slack water (when the tide stops moving), it is incredibly effective. However, in deep water or strong tides, you will need to step up to the 60g or 80g models to stay vertical.
-
Does the color matter? In clear water, natural silver and blue patterns are king. In murkier water or on overcast days, higher-contrast colors like Pink or Orange often trigger more reaction strikes.
-
Are these jigs saltwater resistant? Absolutely. They feature a durable, marine-grade finish. To keep the holographic sparkle at its best, we always suggest a quick rinse in fresh water after your session
