Akios S-Line 656 CSM GRX Reel Gunsmoke
Akios S-Line 656 CSM GRX Gunsmoke Multiplier Reel
At Gerrys Fishing, we recognize that not every angler wants to spend their session manually guiding line onto a spool. The Akios S-Line 656 CSM GRX in its stunning Gunsmoke finish is the answer for those who demand the legendary casting power of the S-Line series but prefer the convenience and flawless line lay of a synchronized level-wind system.
The CSM is widely regarded as one of the most user-friendly high-performance multipliers on the market. By combining a free-floating spool with a dual braking systemfeaturing both external magnetic adjustment and internal centrifugal blocksAkios has created a reel that is incredibly difficult to bird-nest, even when punching a lead into a stiff onshore breeze. Whether you are a multiplier novice or a seasoned veteran looking for a reliable workhorse reel, the 656 CSM GRX delivers high-torque winding power and exceptional distance with every cast.
Built to survive the salt, this reel features anti-corrosion chromed brass side plates, a new and improved instant anti-reverse bearing, and tough, precision-machined brass gears that provide the winching power needed to steer a specimen fish through the surf.
Precision Engineering & Control
The 656 CSM GRX is packed with features that enhance both casting and fish-playing:
-
Dual Braking System: The magnetic brake is easily adjusted via the knob on the left-hand side plate, allowing you to fine-tune the spool speed mid-cast. Combined with the centrifugal blocks, it provides total overrun insurance.
-
Synchronized Level-wind: Unlike some reels where the level-wind remains stationary during the cast (causing friction), the Akios system is synchronized to ensure the line is laid perfectly during retrieve and exits smoothly during the cast.
-
Carbon Multi-Disc Drag: A super-smooth 17.5lb drag system that wont stutter when a big Ray or Smoothhound makes a sudden run for the horizon.

Where to Use This Reel
-
Clean Beach Casting: The ultimate user-friendly reel for targeting Bass, Flatfish, and Whiting on sandy beaches.
-
Pier & Promenade Fishing: The level-wind is a massive advantage in cramped or high-up positions where you want to focus on the fish rather than your line lay.
-
Mixed Ground Marks: The precision brass gears and 5.3:1 ratio offer the grunt needed to pump fish through kelp and over ledges.
-
Night Fishing: The level-wind eliminates the need to feel the line onto the spool in the dark, making your session much more relaxed and efficient.
Gerrys Pro Tip
If youre new to multipliers, the 656 CSM is your best friend. Start with the magnetic brake set to Maximum. As you get comfortable with your casting timing, gradually click the magnet dial back. Youll see your distance increase significantly with every click. Also, because this reel features a level-wind, make sure you dont overfill the spoolleave about 3mm of the rim showing to ensure the level-wind has plenty of swing room to lay the line perfectly without bunching at the edges.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between the CSM and the CTM models?
The CSM (this model) features a synchronized level-wind to guide the line back onto the spool automatically. The CTM is an open cage model without a level-wind, designed for maximum distance where the angler guides the line with their thumb.
Is this reel suitable for use with braid?
Yes, the machined aluminium spool and synchronized level-wind handle braid very well. However, because braid has zero stretch, we recommend a 5.3:1 gear ratio (which this reel has) to provide the necessary torque, and always use a shock leader to protect the reel from the initial impact of the cast.
How do I maintain the level-wind system?
The level-wind is a precision moving part. After every session, rinse the reel in fresh water and apply a tiny drop of light oil to the worm gear (the grooved bar that moves the line guide). This prevents salt and sand from causing wear and keeps the retrieve silky smooth.
Is this a left-handed or right-handed reel?
The 656 denotes a Right-Hand Wind reel (you hold the rod in your left hand and wind with your right). If you require a left-hand wind, you should look for the 651 model.
