The Cox & Rawle Catfish Hook is a heavy-duty, versatile hook primarily designed for handling strong, aggressive fish, particularly in sea fishing applications.
Here are the key features and details about this hook pattern:
Key Features and Specifications
| Feature | Details |
| Design / Shape | Distinctive Sickle Bend (also known as a Kahle or sometimes a modified OShaughnessy bend). This shape is designed for a secure hook-hold. |
| Shank and Wire | 2X Short Shank and 4X Heavy Wire. This combination makes the hook extremely strong and virtually prevents it from straightening out on large, powerful fish. Its built for maximum reliability. |
| Eye | Up-Eye (turned up eye) design. This is ideal for snelling the hook or for use as the top hook in a pennel rig, allowing the line to sit correctly. |
| Material | Manufactured from High-Carbon Steel for superior strength and lasting sharpness. |
| Barbing | Micro-barbed (check specific retail listings as size availability/barb might vary). |
| Primary Use | Originally designed for Catfish, it is widely used in sea fishing for landing aggressive, hard-fighting species from both boat and shore. |
| Target Species (Sea Fishing) | Tope, Smoothhound, Blue Shark, Conger Eels, and also popular for species like Cod, Rays, and Bass in the smaller sizes. |
| Rig Application | Excellent choice for a top pennel hook due to its short shank and up-eye |
