Daiwa D Wave Boat Rod 7 20-30lb

If you are looking for a trusted entry point into the world of offshore angling, the Daiwa D Wave Boat is one of the most reliable first rods you can buy. Here at Gerrys Fishing, we know that Daiwa is synonymous with quality engineering, and they have brought that expertise to an affordable price point with the D Wave. This is a no-nonsense, durable rod designed to handle the choppy conditions and hard-fighting species found in UK waters.

Product Details & Uses

The D Wave is built on a responsive graphite blank that offers a distinct advantage over cheaper fiberglass alternatives. The graphite construction provides a fast-action design, meaning the rod tip recovers quickly and transmits vibrations directly to your hand. This makes it much easier to detect the subtle tapping of a fish in deep water. Despite its sensitivity, the 20-30lb rating ensures it has the power to bully large fish away from reefs and wreckage.

Equipped with aluminum oxide guides, the rod is fully compatible with both monofilament and braided lines, offering smooth line flow and reduced friction during long fights. The slotted DPS reel seat is a standout feature at this price level, ensuring your multiplier reel remains rock-solid and aligned under heavy pressure. With its high-density EVA handledesigned with a minimum 20mm diameter for palm supportthis rod is built for comfort during long days on the drift.

Prime Locations & Uses:

• General UK Boat Fishing: The perfect all-rounder for targeting Cod, Pollack, and Haddock on both the drift and at anchor.

• Charter Boat Entry Level: An excellent choice for beginners and mid-level anglers who want a rod that feels professional without the high price tag.

• Inshore Reef & Wrecking: The 20-30lb backbone is ideal for working lures for Pollack or using baited rigs for Rays and Smoothhounds.

• Bait Fishing: The fast-action tip allows for an effortless hook set the moment you feel a bite, ensuring fewer missed opportunities.

Gerrys Pro Tip

The D Wave is a classic for a reason. Its a very honest rodit does exactly what it says on the tin. My advice? The 20mm diameter EVA handle is a bigger deal than it sounds; it really fills the palm of your hand, which stops you from over-gripping and getting cramp when youre winching up a decent Cod. Pair this with a 6500-size multiplier and 30lb braid, and youll have a setup that can compete with gear twice its price!

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Q: Is this rod sensitive enough to feel small fish?

A: Yes! Because of the graphite blank and fast-action tip, it is much more sensitive than traditional glass rods. You will easily feel the knock of smaller species like Pouting or Whiting, even in deep water.

Q: Can I use braided line with these guides?

A: Absolutely. Aluminum oxide is a hard ceramic that can handle the friction and heat of braided line. It is a standard for reliable boat rods in the UK.

Q: How do I store a 2-piece 7ft rod?

A: The rod breaks down into two equal sections of 3.5ft (approx. 106cm). It will easily fit in the boot of most cars or a standard rod bag. After a session in the salt, always rinse the guides with fresh water to ensure the aluminum oxide stays clean and smooth.

Q: Is it suitable for a fixed spool reel?

A: This rod is primarily designed for use with a multiplier reel (where the reel sits on top of the rod). While you could fit a fixed spool to it, the guide spacing and the DPS seat are optimized for multiplier use.
