Korda Shrink Tube
Korda Shrink Tube
Korda Shrink Tube is an essential tool for the thinking angler, designed to drastically improve the hooking mechanics of your rig. By extending the shank of the hook and creating a calculated inward curve, this tubing forces the hook point to flip and take hold much faster when a carp picks up the boilie.
This high-quality tubing is specifically engineered to be user-friendly, shrinking down to one-third of its original size when exposed to heat. This high shrink ratio ensures a tight, flush fit over the eye of the hook and the hooklink, resulting in a streamlined, professional-looking presentation that is less likely to spook wary fish.

Key Uses & Rig Applications
-
Line Aligner Rigs: Perhaps the most popular use; by sliding a small piece of tube over the eye and curving it slightly, you create a kicker that mimics the legendary line-aligner effect without the bulk.
-
Withy Pool Rigs: Essential for creating the long, sweeping curve required for the Withy Pool presentation, which is devastatingly effective for bottom baits and pop-ups alike.
-
Blowback Rigs: Use a small section to secure the hair against the shank, ensuring the ring or bait stays in the optimum position during the take.
-
Knot Protection: Beyond hooking efficiency, it provides a protective sleeve over knots (like the Grinner or Palomar), shielding them from abrasive gravel or underwater debris.
Pro Tip from the Gerrys Fishing Team
Steam for the Perfect Curve. To get the best results, use a whistling kettle. Hold the rig over the steam (using forceps to protect your fingers!) until the tube shrinks tight. While it is still warm and pliable, hold the tube in your desired curve for a few seconds as it cools. Once it sets, it will retain that memory and provide much better hooking potential than a straight piece of tubing.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which size should I use for my hooks?
As a general rule:
-
Small (1.2mm): Hooks size 10 to 12.
-
Medium (1.6mm): Hooks size 6 to 8.
-
Large (2.0mm): Hooks size 1 to 4.
-
XL (2.4mm): For extra thick wire hooks or heavy-duty sea/predator rigs.
Is it safe for the fish?
Yes. Korda Shrink Tube becomes semi-rigid once set but remains flexible enough to ensure it doesnt cause damage to the fishs mouth during a fight.
Can I shrink it with a lighter?
While you can use a lighter, we strongly recommend steam. A direct flame can easily damage your hooklink material (especially fluorocarbon or coated braid) and can make the tubing brittle. Steam provides a much more even and safe heat source.
