The Penn Slammer IV 2500 is a compact, yet incredibly powerful spinning reel that brings the renowned toughness of the Slammer series to a smaller, more versatile size. It is designed for anglers who need a durable, sealed, and reliable workhorse for a variety of light saltwater and heavy-duty freshwater applications. Unlike its HS counterpart, the standard 2500 model prioritizes balanced retrieve power and torque.

Key Design and Construction Features

• IPX6 Sealed Body and Spool: This is a crucial feature that sets the Slammer IV series apart. The IPX6 rating signifies that the reel is sealed against powerful jets of water from all directions. This robust sealing prevents saltwater, sand, and other corrosive debris from entering the body and the drag system, ensuring the reels longevity and smooth performance, even when subjected to heavy spray or brief submersion.
• Full Metal Body, Sideplate, and Rotor: The reels core is a full metal body and sideplate, which provides a rigid foundation that eliminates frame flex under heavy loads. The metal rotor adds to its solid, no-compromise feel, which is rare in this size category.
• CNC Gear Technology with Brass Main Gear: The Slammer IV utilizes Penns advanced CNC Gear Technology. The main gear is precision-cut from a solid piece of durable brass. This provides a strong, reliable, and smooth gear system that holds up exceptionally well to the stresses of fighting strong fish.
• Sealed Slammer Drag System with Dura-Drag: The drag system is fully sealed and features Penns proprietary Dura-Drag carbon fiber washers. This system is also bearing-supported, which provides an exceptionally smooth and consistent drag output. The max drag of 12 lb (5.4 kg) is incredibly powerful for a reel of this size, giving anglers the confidence to tackle larger fish than they might expect.
• 8+1 Stainless Steel Bearing System: The reel operates on an 8+1 stainless steel bearing system. This large number of bearings contributes to an exceptionally smooth retrieve and reliable performance, even under pressure. The addition of a bearing in the spool supports the drag system under heavy loads.
• Balanced Gear Ratio: The 6.2:1 gear ratio provides a balanced retrieve rate of 33 inches (84 cm) of line per turn. This is fast enough for most lure fishing applications while still providing the torque needed to handle fish in a variety of conditions.
• Hydrophobic Line Roller Bearing: The line roller features a specialized hydrophobic bearing that actively repels water. This is a crucial upgrade that helps prevent corrosion in this highly exposed and critical component, ensuring smooth line lay and longevity.
• Automatic Bail Trip: The 2500 model has an automatic bail trip, which is standard and preferred for a reel of this size.
• Spare EVA Handle Knob: The reel comes with a spare EVA foam handle knob, allowing the angler to choose between the standard metal power knob and the comfortable, grippy EVA option.
