Sakura Orion Jig - 100mm 90g
Sakura Orion Jig 100mm 90g
The Versatile Powerhouse The Essential Mid-Weight Jig
The Sakura Orion Jig 90g is the perfectly balanced all-rounder of the Orion family. At 100mm in length, it offers a compact, high-density profile that excels in both vertical jigging and heavy-duty casting. Designed by ric Le Guyader, this 90g version is an essential tool for French coastal fishing and exotic light-jigging trips where you need a lure that can reach the bottom quickly but is light enough to be worked with high-intensity speed.
Its unique hydrodynamic shape allows it to slice through the water column for a rapid descent, while its specific weight distribution produces those legendary slight oscillations on the drop. These erratic flutters are the primary trigger for predators like Bass, Pollock, and even tropical species like Dentex or small Tuna.

Technical Highlights
-
Compact Density: The 90g weight packed into a 10cm body makes this jig a bullet in the air and the water. It is ideal for casting long distances from a boat to reach surface-breaking fish or for dropping vertically in moderate tidal currents.
-
Continuous Wire Frame: Built for the toughest battles, the through-wire construction ensures that the connection between your leader and your hook remains 100% secure, even if the lead body takes a beating from rocky reefs or powerful jaws.
-
Life-Like Flutter: Unlike standard lead weights, the Orion Jig doesnt just sink; it swims on the way down. The slight oscillations mimic the panicked vibrations of a dying baitfish, often triggering strikes before you even begin your retrieve.
-
Optical Brilliance: The combination of Holographic film and UV-reactive paint maximizes light reflection in the water. The signature Phosphorescent Eye serves as a focal point for predators in the low-light conditions of deeper water.
Where & How to Use It
-
French Coastal Wrecking: A standard for Pollock and Sea Bass over shipwrecks at depths of 30m60m. The 90g weight allows for precision targeting without excessive physical strain.
-
Exotic Light Jigging: Perfect for Speed Jigging in the Mediterranean or Tropics for species like Amberjack, Dentex, and Groupers. Its 100mm length is a universal match for medium-sized forage fish.
-
Casting for Pelagics: If you see Tuna or Bonito breaking the surface, the Orion 90g can be launched significant distances. Use a high-speed linear retrieve with occasional pauses to mimic a fleeing prey.
-
Vertical Waddling: Use a rhythmic lift and drop motion. Vary your recovery speeds and amplitudes to annoy fish into a reaction strike.
Gerrys Pro Tip:
The 90g Orion is my go-to for mid-depth wrecking. Since it comes unarmed, I highly recommend rigging it with a single 3/0 or 4/0 Sakura Assist Hook on the head eyelet. This keeps the hook away from the snaggy bits of a wreck and lets the jig flutter more naturally. If the current is really ripping and you cant feel the bottom, its time to step up to the 150g, but for 80% of my coastal jigging, this 90g model is the sweet spot
