Savage Gear Defiance SG4 Inshore 2.74m (90) 12-46g

The Heavy-Duty Inshore Specialist: Power in a Compact Frame

The Savage Gear Defiance SG4 Inshore 9ft 12-46g is the muscle model of the standard 9ft range. While many rods of this length are tuned for lighter finesse work, this specific version is engineered for the angler who needs a manageable, agile rod but requires the extra grunt to fish heavier lures and tackle larger predators. It is the perfect choice for the modern Bass hunter who finds themselves fishing in heavy tidal flows, deep water, or facing stiff coastal winds that demand heavier payloads.

Constructed from premium Japanese Toray 30T carbon, the blank is reinforced with 2X Wrap technology. This cross-weave increases the rods hoop strength, allowing it to load deeply for powerful casts while providing a massive power reserve to bully a specimen Bass away from bridge pilings or jagged rock ledges. Featuring Reset Accelerator Technology, the blank snaps back to center instantly upon release, ensuring your lure flies with maximum velocity and laser-like accuracy.

Why the Defiance SG4 Inshore 9ft 46g is a Gerrys Choice:

• The Power-Utility Rating: The 12-46g range is exceptionally versatile for heavy-duty applications. It is perfect for large surface sliders, 30g+ deep-diving minnows, and heavy metal jigs, making it a true rough weather tool.

• Agile Leverage: At 9ft, this rod offers a faster tip-speed and more maneuverability than longer 10ft rods. This makes it superior for technical lure manipulationsuch as walking the dog or aggressive jiggingwhile still offering the backbone of a heavyweight rod.

• Fuji-O Stainless Steel Hardware: Saltwater is a brutal environment, which is why this rod is fitted with Stainless Steel Fuji O guides. These are world-renowned for their durability and low friction, helping you squeeze every extra yard out of your cast when using modern 8-strand braids.

• Tactical EVA Grip: The special shaped EVA handle is ergonomically designed to provide maximum grip even when wet or covered in salt spray. The shape is optimized for the pull-push motion of power casting and provides a comfortable anchor point during a long fight.

Where to Use the Defiance SG4 Inshore 46g in the UK

• Morecambe Bay & Local Tidal Rips: For our regulars at Heysham or Rossall, this is a premier Bass tool for big tides. It has the power to work a heavy lead-head or a large paddle-tail shad in a ripping current without the blank folding under the pressure.

• Deep Water Rock Marks: Ideal for targeting Pollack and Wrasse off deep-water piers or breakwaters like Holyhead. The fast action allows for instant hook-sets, while the 2X Wrap carbon provides the power to lift fish over shoreline kelp.

• Stormy Conditions: When the wind is blowing in your face, you need a rod that can cut through. The 46g upper limit allows you to switch to a heavy, aerodynamic jig and keep fishing effectively when lighter rods fail.

• Estuary Mouths: Perfect for the mouths of the Lune or Wyre during big spring tides. It has the strength to bully a double-figure fish away from mooring ropes and underwater structure.

• Heavy Surface Lures: A dream rod for working larger surface lures like the Patchinko 140. The 9ft length makes it easier to impart the sharp, rhythmic rod movements required for a large topwater bait.

The Gerrys Fishing Verdict:

The Savage Gear Defiance SG4 9ft 46g is a formidable piece of kit. It offers the performance and feel of a high-end rod at a price point that represents incredible value. If you want a rod that feels compact and easy to handle but possesses the hidden muscles to handle the rough stuff, this is a top-tier contender.
