Shimano Aerlex 14000 XTC Spod The Long-Range Baiting Specialist

The Shimano Aerlex 14000 XTC Spod is a purpose-built Big Pit reel designed specifically for the heavy-duty task of spoddinglaunching bait-filled rockets and mid-to-long distances. At Gerrys Fishing, we recommend the Aerlex Spod as the ultimate entry-level to mid-range baiting reel. It bridges the gap between basic utility and high-end performance, offering Shimanos legendary durability in a package that can handle the constant stress of casting and retrieving heavy spods.

Unlike the standard Aerlex XTC, the Spod version is optimized for speed and repetition. It features a higher retrieve rate and a dedicated spool setup to ensure you spend less time winding and more time baiting your swim accurately.

Product Details & Performance Features

• High-Speed Spod Retrieve: While the standard Aerlex has a 4.3:1 ratio, the Spod model is geared up to 5.3:1. This allows it to retrieve a massive 115cm of line per handle turn, which is crucial for quickly bringing an empty spod back across the surface to save time during a baiting campaign.

• Super Slow 5 Oscillation: Usually reserved for reels at twice the price, Super Slow 5 oscillation ensures perfectly parallel line lay on the spool. This reduces friction during the cast, allowing you to hit those distant spots with less effort.

• Triple Line Clips: The Aerlex Spod features three line clips on the spool. This allows the angler to clip up at three different distances (e.g., your far-margin spot, a mid-lake plateau, and a closer silt bed) without having to unclip and re-measure every time.

• G-Free Body & Parallel Body: The G-Free Body technology shifts the reels center of gravity closer to the rod, reducing fatigue. The Parallel Body ensures the spool is perfectly aligned with the rods first guide, minimizing line slap and maximizing casting distance.

• Instant Drag: The Instant Drag system allows you to go from a loose spool to a locked-down setting in just half a turn of the drag knob. While primarily a baiting reel, this feature is excellent if you decide to use the reel for heavy-duty marker work.

• Cold Forged AR-C Spool: The angled spool lip reduces the diameter of the line coils as they leave the spool, resulting in less energy loss and longer, more accurate casts.

Gerrys Pro Tip: The Aerlex 14000 XTC Spod is the perfect partner for the Shimano Tribal TX Spod rods. Because spodding involves repetitive, heavy casting, the high retrieve rate of this reel is its biggest advantageit significantly reduces the physical toll on your arm during a heavy baiting session.
