It is an advanced form of a three-hook rig designed to maximize the chance of catching multiple species and fish at different depths.

The boom is a rigid or semi-rigid system that forms the core of a three-hook rig.

1. Three Booms: The rig uses three arms (booms) that hold the hook snoods (hook lengths) away from the main line and the lead weight.
2. Depth Presentation: The main purpose is to present baits at three distinct levels in the water column:
   • Two Bottom Hooks: Two booms are positioned close to the lead weight, fishing directly on or just off the seabed. These booms are often on opposite sides to prevent tangles.
   • One Top Hook: One boom is placed higher up the rig body, near the main swivel, to fish a little way off the bottom.
3. Flexible Junctions: The booms are interlinked with flexible joins and separated by a swivel. This allows each boom to move up and down independently, ensuring the baits have a lot of enticing, natural movement.
4. Anti-Tangle: The boom systems rigid arms and opposing positions significantly reduce the chance of the three hook snoods tangling with each other or the main line, a common problem with standard three-hook flapper rigs.
5. Attraction: The movement of the booms allows the baits to flutter when the line is retrieved or jigged slightly by the angler, adding extra attraction, especially important for inquisitive fish like flatfish.

• Tactics: Best used with a slow retrieve or a gentle, soft jigging action that does not lift the lead off the seabed but causes the booms to wave their arms to attract fish.
• Target Species: Flatfish (Dab, Flounder, Plaice), Whiting, Small Cod, Gurnards, Pouting, and other small inshore species.
